Its all about the Waves
Sunday, 1st August 2010

Well summer is well and truly upon us down here in Perranporth.

The weather may not feel like it, but its just a bit of cloud and rain; once you get in the sea you don't even notice. The long range forecast, although not always reliable is predicting a LOT of sun over the upcoming week and the waves are going to be consistently small and fun, with light winds to boot! All in all, a great forecast for learning to surf!

We have got our 'Summer Specials' board out for the season now. We are running various offers including a Wednesday morning Kids Club, Thursday Surf and Yoga sessions and an exclusive surf and meal deal with Seiners!

Hope to see you all down here.

Holidays are coming
Tuesday, 20th July 2010

No update for a while as we have been stacked out with lessons down here. Seems like the summer holidays arrived early in Perranporth with heaps of people around and everyone wanting to learn to surf!

The waves have been great for teaching in. We have had a few rough days, but on the whole it has been small easy conditions, great for coaches and even better for those intrepid enough to get on a board and test their skills. Our fell week courses have been flying out the door with everyone wanting to put a bit more time into learning the basics and it has definitely paid off with big smiles all round.

The Ticket to Ride reunion a week or so ago went down an absolute storm with Seiners putting on a great BBQ, some mellow beach tunes from Francis and the Drakes, and naturally a few beers with friends!

Our first Surf and Yoga weekend is in view now, on the 31st July and 1st Aug. Surfing and Yoga topped off with a Swedish massage, the ONLY way to spend your weekend! Details are on the website so have a look and give us a cal if you like the look!

See you in the water!

Loose fittings
Wednesday, 30th June 2010

A week or two ago, myself and Jabs took cameras, backpacks and food and walked the coast path until we found a couple of empty peaks! We took it in turns to film and surf and got a few fun little waves. It is such a pleasure being able to divorce yourself from all the going's on in your life for just a day. We were very close to home but the setting and lack of people allow you and your thoughts time to shine.

The waves were small and so I tested out a friends Loose Fit retro model. It is a 6'0", not sure of width or thickness but it had plenty of volume and all the float was under the front foot. It could be ridden as a thruster set up or quad. I chose the thruster but in hindsight, probably should have ridden the quad for a bit more speed. Super fun board though and it was great just being the only person out! The light was a bit flat so I played about with the colour in the video. Hope you like it.

Other news and lessons have been flying out the door. Conditions have been perfect for learning with consistent small swells, good sand banks and light winds. It has made it such a pleasure to teach recently and everyone has left with huge smiles on their faces!

We are now doing a daily surf report on our Surf Academy Facebook page so check it out and if you want and eyeball report just give us a call on 01872 888 480.

See you in the water!!

Life on the beach
Tuesday, 15th June 2010

We've had some great waves and some scorching weather of late. The sandbanks have lined up great and all the boys and girls have been lucking into some classic conditions. Some secret tide action going down for those in the know!

Weather wise, it has been one of the best spring's we have had down here in a good few years and it has made lessons an absolute pleasure. A lot of smiling faces all over at present!

We have got our Surf and Yoga weekend scheduled in for the end of the month on the 28 and 29th. There's still a few places available so check out the courses page for more info.

Hope you enjoy the video!

Easy life
Monday, 7th June 2010

Well half term has been and gone and it was a great week all round!

We started the week with a school group from Sherborne. Down for a 3 day course, we managed to pack a solid 8 sessions in. The group of 10 guys and 6 teachers were a ball of laughs. With everyone keen to get in all day everyday, and some great conditions, the time flew by in a haze of wet wetsuits and smiles.

Some of the group had joined us the previous year for lessons at the Academy and over their time here, we saw everyone improve massively. On the 3rd day we had some all time Perranporth, with the sun out, blue skies to the horizon, and high tide and some perfect 2-3ft waves. We got the advanced guys out the back for their first taste of 'green wave' surfing, and once they had a taste, there was no stopping them!

A great few days spent in the water and we look forward to having you back next year Sherborne!!

Other news and the surf has been pumping down here. We have had a great run of swell and light winds making for some epic conditions. The whole town is buzzing. The locals are stoked on the waves and the weather has meant that town is busier than ever! It felt like a busy week in summer down here last week so we are keeping our fingers crossed for more of that!

Also, new clothing stock in the shop! We have got some rad new colours and styles in, so check out our online shop or pop in and see us to get first grabs!

With half term over, town has quietened down. I have a day off tomorrow and the swell forecast is looking bonzers so I shall be up with the sun and in the water all day!

What a blinder
Thursday, 27th May 2010

Hello everyone,

Been out of touch for a while....the waves have been pumping down here! We have just had a week of solid surf. The swell came up on Tuesday last week and kept itself busy all through until Sunday just gone. Waking up every morning and looking out my window seeing swell lines stacked corduroy to the horizon, bright blue skies and offshore winds was like living in a dream world! Perranporth had some great banks dishing out some long rides on the high tide, and some pretty hefty, hollow sections on the low tide.

The last few days have been small but it looks like we have got some more swell on the way, albeit with onshores. Still its great to be getting in the water so much and especially on my new Clayton stick! Rad shape from one of his SA team riders Tristan Johnson (back in the day). The board is an old battered number with a repaired crease, heaps of dings and a delaminated deck, but it goes like the clapper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ellbP7bS9uk&feature=fvw

We have been busy down here with lessons recently. Our friends at Canu Yoga came down for a weekend of surfing and yoga and scored some great waves. Alongside them and several others we took Teeside Uni surf club out for some Improver / Advanced coaching and had a great result with some small clean surf.

For me its off to do some painting, decorating and refurbishing down at the Academy. Watch this space for all our news and happenings here in Perranporth!

Loving life in Cornwall
Thursday, 13th May 2010

Well, I had a meeting this morning at a local hotel we are looking at working with. The sun was out and the sky was an electric blue, glowing al the way to the horizon. The winds have been a bit on the cold side recently so I put on my coat and strolled up the hill. Half way up it got hot! Really hot! Hotter than I've felt it all year so far. I reached the hotel and had a tour of one of the nicest spots in Perranporth, great views and lovely hosts.
After our meeting I thought it would be nice to walk across the heathland at the top of the cliffs and back down the cliff path into town. Coming over the last of the mines I got my first glimpse of the ocean today and it stole my breath. With the sun beating down on me and a shimmering turquoise ocean in front of me I got an instant sense of excitement, and sudden appreciation for where I live. It is easy to get side tracked by the things that are easier to see in life, and totally blind yourself to what is right in front of you, all day, every day. I took a slow stroll back to town, relishing the view and feeling pretty smug about life! High tide tonight and a distinct lack of waves makes me think I am going to go fishing after work, yet another reason for me to feel smug! I guess what I am really thinking is that its easy to fall foul of life's everyday pressures so make sure you take sometime out of your routine and have a look around you.

Other than my slightly 'hippy' and 'mother earth worshipping' morning, we are gearing up for the ever approaching main season now. We have a whole bunch of new wetsuits and boards for this season and some great deals going on. It is still nice and quiet down here so a perfect time to get down and learn to surf with just you and your friends!

Keep your eyes open and hope to see you all down this way at somepoint!

Rising from a winter wonderland!
Sunday, 25th April 2010

Well I've been back in the country for a little over 3 weeks now. I haven't seen much in the way of surf, a few swell board sessions to whet the appetite, the sun has been out in full force here though. Beach BBQ's are flowing thick and fast and I've got to start eating something else than just MEAT!!

We've had a stag group down here this weekend on our all new 2010 'Stag/Hen Weekend Package'. Something a little out of the ordinary for all you brides and grooms to be.
A big 'Hi' to Rob, Woodsy, Andy, Andy and all the boys, and a big shout out to Pat and good luck for the future. A weekend of surf, paintballing and a few cheeky jars!! Great fun having you all here and hope to see you down again sometime!

Waves have finally started to push through today with the onshores. Tide is a bit too low now so I'm going to wait and see if it gets a little better on the push. Looks like we are gonna have some swell all week. Its needed...the pasty's and guinesses are turning Sam into a couch surfer!

Well thats about all from me, keep checking back as we have got lots lined up for the season, with music gigs, rider days, yoga weekends and more inspiration from the ocean!

2009 Instructors Swell Board Challenge
Tuesday, 22nd December 2009

In 2009 the TTRide Instructors had a ball at Perranporth. The high tide and big swells made for perfect swell boarding conditions.
